My second Bargue master study at Pantura Studios. This Bargue drawing was literally a nightmare in the entire process. It took me 4 months to complete of working on this a few hours a day. I learned an immense amount about what I’m capable of doing on this drawing though, and this drawing opened my eyes to the skills necessary to move on to a higher class of drawing. One of the main benefits I can see that I gained from the practice on this particular piece was sensitivity in rendering, value, and line.
If you notice, there are many areas on this drawing that have a very slight value shift and graphite is a very constrained medium in so far as the range of values you can represent accurately. I tried to keep the value relationships as true as possible and the sensitivity thankfully was retained. Shortly after this drawing I began a third Bargue study, but I was moved immediately into the cast drawing program after getting a week into the third drawing and I thankfully haven’t touched a Bargue study since.
Although this isn’t to discredit this step in your learning of the arts. This was probably one of the most beneficial steps into the world of higher art for me and I wouldn’t have traded the experience for anything.

Great job on these. I remember having to do these drawings and they were ridiculous. I remember this drawing and how much of a pain it was.

This drawing was a bit of a pain. Hell, I think anything that takes 4 months to finish would be a pain. I was just glad I got it done before I lost my sanity.
