This drawing was the first part in my atelier training beginning at Pantura Studios. This master copy took me 4 weeks to complete, and actually seemed relatively easy at the time, although I won’t be saying the same thing about the next Bargue drawing I’d do shortly after this one.
This drawing taught me mainly the meaning of patience with art. Up until this point, I was used to completing a work within a day maybe, or even a few hours. Having to work 4 hours on one section of this drawing just to get it perfect humbled me quite a bit and opened my eyes to the real skill and patience it takes to complete a masterwork.
Unfortunately, this Bargue master drawing copy is only the beginning. The real bread and butter of this kind of training comes along in the form of cast studies, and that is where the real men are separated from the boys in terms of who has it and who doesn’t.

Hello Nate, I was bumping around the web and came across your site. Very nice. I was on the opposite side of Kalencia drawing in Whitaker’s class. I have enjoyed seeing your work again.

Thanks Penny. That was a fun class working on the Kalencia drawing. I’d love to sit down and draw her again, she did an amazing job.
